Here are some reasons why you should read this letter:

Brothers: This will show off our outstanding brotherhood

Parents: This will—hopefully—assure you that your son is involved with the perfect group of men

Alumni: This will show you that your chapter is alive and well

Friends/Sweethearts: This will point out how important you are why we love having you involved with our chapter.

Anyone Else: This will prove to you why you belong in one of the above categories.

First, the boring stuff: my name is Jamie Chung and I’m the chapter president, Big Cheese, Grand Poobah, what have you, of Delta Tau Delta, Iota Zeta Chapter at Virginia Tech.

Next, the fun stuff: Delts have had quite the outstanding journey this fall. We’ve participated in several philanthropies put on by the lovely sororities here on campus. We played tug-of-war in Alpha Delta Pi’s Safari Hunt, we wooed the ladies of Gamma Phi Beta in search of winning a crescent in the Crescent Classic, and we watched Brother Chung eat 17 wings in record time at Alpha Chi Omega’s Mock Rock–we’ve found that lawn sports and competitive eating are really our strong-points as a group.

We launched the first rendition of our new philanthropy, “Are you smarter than a fifth grader?” this semester. We tested the smarts of ladies of the Greek Community against the determined, cream of the crop of Harding Avenue Elementary. These kids are quick; I seriously lost in a game of chess to a fifth grader one week at chess club.

We welcomed two new purple irises to the ranks of our lovely sweethearts: Missy Coates of Pi Beta Phi, and Brittany Patton of Alpha Delta Pi. Our beautiful sweethearts have continued to help us network with sororities on campus, raise our spirits, and make us look good in the process.

Academically, Delts are on the up-and-up. Our chapter GPA has raised by 0.3 points in the past semester, this is largely thanks to our Director of Academic Affairs, Sean Huynh, caffeine, and Newman Library going 24-hours. Brothers are taking tough classes, doing well, and keeping academics our number one priority.

We’ve held many brotherhood events this semester. All are welcome to join us for lunch on Tuesdays, 12:30 at D2. In outdoor news, we recently we hiked McAfee’s Knob, which produced a sweaty, out of breath brotherhood at the top; but we had a ball and made back the calories at “the Homeplace” later that day.

Our chapter was installed in 2002 and we’re starting to see our alumni come back and enjoy crashing on our new couches in the study. Brother Sean Peroni taught brothers in the house mattress surfing in the hallway—plastic coated mattress + Crisco = entertainment and some great pictures. We even had a visit from Brother Dave Kent, who came back to the Shelter and attended formal chapter in a t-shirt and jeans. All brothers, tech alumni and not, will always have a place to stay at Iota Zeta; but were not guaranteeing the place will be clean.

Thanks for reading this letter. Hopefully you’re not thinking: “wow, this has been a tremendous waste of my time.” Seriously, I’m so proud to be in this up-and-coming chapter on the VT campus and we’d love bring more men of distinction to our group. Please check back for our spring rush schedule and have a great day.

Fraternally,

Jamie F. Chung
